Amb. Cesar B. Bautista, SteelAsia board member, passes away at 78
Amb. Cesar B. Bautista, a member of the Board of Directors of the SteelAsia Manufacturing Corporation since 2014, passed away on 08 December 8 2015, at the age of 78.
His distinguished career in public service saw him appointed as the Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry and Chairman of the Board of Investments from 1996 to 1998, during the term of President Fidel Ramos. Even then, he believed that a growing economy needs a strong steel industry.
He also served as the Chairman of the APEC Economic Ministers Meetings. During the term of President Gloria Arroyo, he served as Ambassador to the Court of St. James and was Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Republic of Iceland. Amb. Bautista was also the Special Envoy of the President to Europe, and a permanent representative to the United Nations International Maritime Organization.
Aside from his Board seat at SteelAsia, Amb. Bautista was on the Board several other private corporations, including First Philippine Holdings, City Resources Philippines, First Philippine Infrastructure, Asian Terminals, D&L Industries, Equitable PCI Bank, Maxicare, Equitable Savings Bank, Equitable Card Network, Pilipinas Shell Corporation, Bayan Telecommunications, and ABS-CBN. He was also Board Chairman of Unilever and St. James Ventures Inc.
Amb. Bautista was awarded the Presidential Order of Merit and conferred the Order of Sikatuna with Rank of Datu.
