SteelAsia Joins Punuan Para Sa Kagubatan
SteelAsia recently inked a Memorandum of Agreement with the Bulacan State University (BulSU) and the Gurong Nagbabalik Sa Bayan (GNB) to undertake the Punuan Para Sa Kagubatan: Angat Watershed Rainforestation Project, a multi-sectoral effort to restore Angat Dam’s forest cover. Spread over five years and covering 25 hectares, the Punuan initiative is two-pronged: (1) regular tree planting activities by various civic groups, academe and business entities; and, (2) the Dumagats living in the area will be taking care of these trees to ensure that these thrive and mature.
Aside from providing financial support for the project’s first full year of implementation, SteelAsia employees are also set to join the series of tree planting activities in the project area, the first of which is slated on 05 November 2016.
SteelAsia joined this endeavor as part of its corporate responsibility commitment - of being, “part of the solution” and fostering inclusiveness. In his short speech at the signing event, Mr Ryan John Bernabe, SteelAsia’s Vice President for IT, emphasized the company’s commitment to nurture the environment. He extended the company’s appreciation to the proponents’ invitation to be part of this laudable effort to safeguard Angat Dam, and in the long run, Manila’s water supply. The company looks forward to being part of Punuan Sa Kagubatan until its completion in 2020.
